    What is aspect ratio and how is it calculated?

    Aspect ratio is width divided by height. A 1920×1080 screen has aspect ratio 1920÷1080 = 1.78 (or 16:9). Common ratios: 4:3 (1.33) for old TVs, 16:9 (1.78) for HD, 21:9 (2.33) for ultrawide, and 2.39:1 for cinema scope.

    What is letterboxing and pillarboxing?

    Letterboxing adds black bars top and bottom when showing wide content on a narrower screen (e.g., 2.39 movie on 16:9 TV). Pillarboxing adds black bars on the sides when showing narrow content on a wider screen (e.g., 4:3 content on 16:9).

    How do I convert aspect ratio to pixels?

    Multiply one dimension by the aspect ratio to get the other. For 16:9 at 1080 height: 1080 × (16÷9) = 1920 width. For 4K at 16:9: 2160 × 1.78 = 3840. Always round to even numbers for video encoding compatibility.
